Understanding Search

Wednesday, February 5th, “Super Tuesday” dominated….but were not gonna talk about the because it is 7:30 Central time and it is way too early to know a whole lot.

A much more exciting topic, Mardi Gras, going on this week in New Orleans and around the United States has been on people’s minds.  Mardi Gras celebrates Fat Tuesday which is the final day before fasting for Lent.  What’s crazy is “mardi gras” actually means “fat tuesday” in French.  The infamous “Hurricane” beverage (traditional Mardia Gras favorite) has also been a hot search.  They really are tasty beverages and incredibly easy to make (or so I thought in college when it was basically a bunch of fruit juices and Everclear).  However, it appears the true recipe is quite elaborate….this is the true, New Orleans, rent a car bulgaria???????? ????? ????????Hurricane Recipe. 

So it’s Monday, February 4th and I have returned.  What a Super Bowl?  To me, the upset wasn’t near as big a story as the defensive battle we witnessed.  Congratulations to the New York Giants….anyone that can hold New England to 14 points and sack Brady five times deserves a big, diamond-studded Super Bowl ring. 

The leading search for Friday, February 2nd, 2008 is for a 7-foot Spaniard.  Pau Gasol, formerly of the Memphis Grizzlies, was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers today.  Maybe my boy Colorado Kobe will now quit his complaining and be content with the pieces around him.  The Laker’s now feature four All-Star caliber players (Colorado Kobe, Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom and Gasol).  Unfortunately, the NBA’s Western Conference is absolutely loaded and the Lakers will have to get through super-powers Phoenix, Dallas and San Antonio before they can be considered elite.  But, it is a start and will definitely make the rest of the NBA take notice that these Lakers are ready to compete.

The last day of January 2008 was a day for the former Harlem drug kingpin Leroy “Nicky” Barnes.  This coming Tuesday the DVD “Mr. Untouchable”, a documentary of the life of Nicky Barnes, will be released.  Barnes was considered one of the biggest heroin dealers New York City has ever seen.  The cover of the DVD gives a great insight into his story with one half set in white and titled “Godfather” and the other half colored black and titled “Or Snitch”.  Nicky Barnes was released in 1998 after testifying against three other major crime lords of his time.  I heard he owns a daycare in Manhattan and lives with his wife and three children….OK, I didn’t hear that but wouldn’t that be nice?

An average golfer on tour named Ian Poulter finally found a way to finish in the top 10.  Unfortunately for him, he did so by making some comments about Tiger Woods, which landed his name as the 10th most searched phrase in Google Hot Trends tonight.  Ian has always thought he was one of the best golfer’s on the planet, and he said something about him being the 2nd best golfer in the world, right behind Mr. Woods.  Ian predicts he will win one of the majors this year, and I see his point…since his best finish in a major thus far was 13th.  Ian does have something to brag about though, as he has won a whopping 7 tourneys over the past 9 years…and were not talking about the renowned Hippo tour or the famous Challenge tour.  He won those extremely competitive events on the Europeon tour.  Hey Ian, why don’t you bring your pink pants to the PGA tour and see how that goes for ya!  Oh, and in case you are interested…Ian is evidently hiding his manhood in some new, nearly naked photo shoot, with only a golf bag to cover his trophy.

Miley Cyrus aka Hannah Montana of the popular Disney Channel show, has found herself a scandal much like the girl from High School Musical did a few months ago.  Pictures have surfaced and blogs (like ME) have been churning about her extra curricular activities.  Ms. Montana…Cyrus has been caught with photos on MySpace of her in panties.  Love the title of the webpage I fond them on, “Miley’s One Step Closer To Porn”….I love the optimism brother, but she’s only 15 so wait a few years.  Anyway, the Hannah Montana underwear pics are here.

January 28, 2008.  Finally, it’s Howard’s turn, as in howardstern.com.  Get it?  Okay, that’s just corny.  Anyway, not sure what all the hubbub is about Howie, but you’d sure think a multimillionaire like The Stern could afford a server that could handle a few measly searches.  Nope, server down, website down, howard is officially offline tonight.  Jump over to Google News and search for the star of Private Parts, and the newest story is about Sirius Satellite Radio’s (howard’s home) stock being up a whopping 7% today.  That has got to be it….or not!  Possibly it’s a result of a recent interview about the new Star Trek movie…you know those crazy trekies!

The searches for January 27th, 2008 were driven by a young lady named Sean Young.  Apparently, the actress had a few too many beverages before the Directors Guild Awards last night and had to be escorted out after causing “too many disruptions”.  Director Julian Schnabel, after being ridiculed by Sean while presenting an award, told Young to “have another drink, Honey”.  Very creative comeback and I’m sure Sean Young’s PR rep will be working 16 hour days these next few weeks.

January 25th, 2008 saw the famed Monte Carlo Hotel in Las Vegas go up in flames.  Not a whole lot of information has been released at this point but it appears that the top four or five floors of two of the wings and the roof was ablaze.  There is some really neat raw video footage taken from a helicopter here.  I’m guessing their were some upset gamblers who were in the middle of major runs and had to be evacuated.  Don’t forget those chips people!
